June 4, 2012 - Below Slab Insulation

Our below-slab insulation has been installed! I've mentioned in earlier posts that we are trying to get as close as possible to Passive House standards, and this is one of the things that gets us there.  You may or may not be able to tell from the photos but there is 2" of below slab insulation, which connects directly to 2" of insulation which will run all the way up the foundation wall.  On the inside of the foundation wall there will be a stud wall with more insulation, and then drywall over that.  This is just one part of the system that will keep our house extremely air tight and well-insulated.  I'll keep you informed on the whole system as it is put into place.  For now, though, we've got insulation and reinforcing mesh, and we're ready for a basement slab!
